Toyota is the most popular car in Donegal – and that’s official.
The county had almost 11,000 Toyotas out of a licenced car population of almost 60,000 at the end of 2009, according to the Bulletin of Vehicle and Driver Statistics.
It revealed that there were 59,489 private cars registered in Donegal at the end of 2009.
The second most popular manufacturer was Volkswagen (6,659), followed by Opel (5,974).
The county also had 15,126 goods vehicles as well as 3,210 tractors and 648 motorbikes at the end of last year.
Nationally, Toyota is also the most popular (277,000) followed by Volkswagen (211,000). There are just over 1.92 million private cars in the State.
Meanwhile, 2,648,000 driving licences were valid at the end of December 2009.
The recession really began to bit last year with cars sales slumping to their lowest level in over a decade. This year sales are up by around 50%, due to the scrappage scheme and other incentives from manufacturers.
