German discount retailer Aldi is seeking planning permission for a new store off the Neil. T. Blaney Road in Letterkenny.
Access to the proposed new store would be off a new link road that is planned to go from the Neil T. Blaney Road over towards the back of the Community Centre and the Canal Road.
A decision on the application is due next week.
The plans include provision for 77 car parking spaces and 12 bicycle spaces on the site of over two acres.
It is understood that Aldi plans to have two stores in Letterkenny, with the new one in addition to the existing store that opened on the Ramelton Road almost ten years ago.
Docementation contained with the planning application notes that “Aldi has a requirement for additional stores in Donegal, including a second store in Letterkenny.”
At least seven sites in the town were considered for the new development.
Around 20 new jobs are likely to be generated if the store goes ahead.
