Harps face fixture clash

Finn Harps will travel to play Longford Town on Friday but the midlanders’ refusal to change the day of the fixture will mean that the game clashes with the Harps v Celtic Legends game on the same night.
Harps were notified last weekend that Longford Town have decided to play their home games on Fridays instead on Saturdays. Harps approached the Longford club to about the possibility of moving the game to Saturday, given the fact that they were holding a much-needed fundraiser against Celtic Legends in Ballybofey.
However, the Donegal club’s attempts proved pointless and so James Gallagher’s side are likely to be traveling with a reduced army of supporters for the Airtricity League clash.
The game could prove decisive come the end of the season and Gallagher will be eager to get a result.
“It is a game where probably winner takes all in a sense of who has the better advantage over the other heading into the last stretch of games,” he said.
“Both sides will be asking each other ‘how much do we want to finish above the other?’. It’s another tough test but if we continue to play with the same sort of urgency and freedom that we have been doing over the last few games then we’d be fairly confident of coming home with all three points.”
Harps enjoyed a 3-1 win over Mervue United last week but will be without the suspended Tony Shields on Friday after he picked up a red card in that match. Kevin McHugh will return from suspension and Matthew Crossan and Thomas Bonner are also expected to be back.
Harps need to maintain the momentum they have developed in the last couple of games and will be looking to add to their recent good results against the Longford outfit.
Kick-off is in Flancare Park at 8pm.
