England’s Sam Craigie defeated China’s Li Hang 9-8 to win the 2010 IBSF World U21 Snooker Championships in the Northwest Snooker Club on Tuesday night.
The 16-year-old saw off the challenge of his brother Stephen in the semi-final and defeated the tough former pro from China to claim the title and a place on next year’s tour.
Craig came back from 6-3 down in a tense finish to the competition. Li Hang won frame 16 to leave it 8-8 out of 17 frames.
Craigie showed remarkable resolve to maintain his concentration under pressure and he complied an impressive break of 98 in the final frame to lift the trophy. It was a tremendous finish to a great competition that saw the best underage players in the world come to Letterkenny.
Irish pro Ken Doherty was on hand to present the trophy in Gallaghers Hotel on Tuesday night.
