Visitor numbers up at Glenveagh

Posted online: Feb 18th, 2010

The number of people visiting Glenveagh National Park has reached record levels – and now there are plans for a further upgrading of facilities.
During 2006, 92,837 visited the park, in 2007, the numbers were 107,512 and last year the numbers increased to 117,500.
Glenveagh is being actively promoted by Fáilte Ireland and is seen as one of the north-west’s top attractions.
Deputy Dinny McGinley has now been informed that finance for new projects at the park could be confirmed in the coming weeks.
According to Environment Minisiter John Gormley, the proposals include the further development of a new pedestrian route from the visitor centre to the Castle, on-going rhododendron clearance and the provision of air conditioning in the restaurant.
Glenveagh employs 33 permanent staff and part time staff are engaged during the summer months.
“Every euro invested in Glenveagh is of tremendous benefit to the economy of the County,” Deputy McGinley commented.
