Living legend returns

Living legend returns

Kevin McHugh could be the man to propel Donegal’s only senior club back to the top flight of Irish soccer.
And in doing so, he could become one of the top ten League of Ireland goalscorers of all time.
The 30 year-old, who has returned to the Ballybofey-based club from Linfield having signed a one year deal, is still regarded as one of the league’s best strikers.
Currently Harps third highest league goalscorer ever – with 118 goals – he is still poised to break into the top ten.
Nobody may ever break Brendan Bradley’s outstanding record of 235 league goals, but McHugh surely has a few years left in him to climb up the scoring ladder.
He is currently joint 22nd in the all-time charts with 118 league goals, but only Jason Byrne (5th, 161) and Glen Crowe (jt 8th, 153) are still playing.
If McHugh can manage another 26 goals in his Harps career, he will jump into the top ten – displacing the great Paul McGee who has 143 league goals.
McHugh’s return – he left Harps for Derry City in 2006 – is a huge boost for manager James Gallagher.
Indeed, McHugh’s presence in itself was likely to have swelled the attendance in the friendly game against Sligo Rovers due to have been played this evening (Thursday).
