St Eunan’s College basketball team lifted the All-Ireland School Cup with a nine point win over Dublin’s Chanel College in yesterday’s final at the National Basketball Arena in Tallaght.
An outstanding display from the Hickey brothers, Aodhan and Seamus, helped the Letterkenny side to victory in the final. With a combined score of 56 points between them, the pair provided most of St Eunan’s firepower on the day. Seamus Hickey was rewarded with the Golden Ball award for his efforts.
Eunan’s led 16-13 at the end of the first quarter and a flurry of scores from Seamus Hickey in the second quarter helped to secure a 35-33 lead at half-time. Aodhan Hickey stepped up in the third quarter with a number of breakaway scores and St Eunan’s enjoyed a 53-46 lead going into the final quarter. Chanel responded and reduced the Letterkenny team’s lead to just six points going into the final five minutes but St Eunan’s finished strongly to maintain their advantage and secure the cup.
