Saved…by the sun

Many of Donegal’s hard-pressed farmers heaved a sign of relief this week as they worked frantically to get in the harvest.
Tillage farmers, notably in the east of the county, were working into the night to avail of the recent spell of dry weather.
Almost constant sunshine last weekend and a decent spell of weather since (except for Tuesday) has enabled them to get in crops that were weeks behind their usual harvesting.
There are still some concerns about possible fodder shortages later in the year.
But the good news is that the forecast for the next five days is good, with plenty of dry weather and sunny spells with maximum temperatures of 16 to 19 degrees.
