CO-OPERATING for Cancer Care NorthWest, CCC(NW), say they are pleased with its meeting with An Tánaiste Mary Coughlan held in Letterkenny.
The delegation met with An Tánaiste for around an hour-and-a-half to discuss developments in the provision of cancer services for Donegal/North West Region.
“The Tánaiste was well informed and on top of the brief. The meeting was very productive,” said a spokesperson for the group.
“An Tánaiste has given an undertaking to meet with Minister Mary Harney to brief her on the details of this meeting so that when a delegation from Co-operating for Cancer Care NorthWest meet Minister Harney on Monday, June 29th in Dublin, she will be in a position to address outstanding issues.
“CCC(NW) was very pleased to hear from Minister Coughlan that the ‘work-up’ for BreastCheck in Donegal will commence in the second half of September, this year.
“This will start with the ‘consent process’ whereby women of eligible age will be asked for consent for breast screening and it is expected that letters of invite to attend for actual screening will be posted three weeks later, in October.”
The Minister also told the group that Minister Harney is committed to the provision of a cross border radiation unit to be built in Altnagelvin.
CCC(NW) is holding a public meeting on Friday 19 June at 7.30pm in Ostan-Na-Rossan, Dungloe and all are welcome.
