A new-look MacCumhaill Park is set to boost John Joe Doherty’s charges as they gear up for their Ulster Senior Football Championship clash with Antrim in Ballybofey on Sunday week, June 14th.
The ground now has over 4,600 new seats in the splendid main stand while extensive work has gone into upgrading the river end terrace.
And the total capacity of the venue now stands at 20,000, although for health and safety reasons the Ulster Council may impose a slightly lower limit.
Between them the Co. Board and MacCumhaill’s GAA club have invested over €1.6 million in the ground during the past year.
Things have never been better in terms of the surroundings, and Doherty now has the task of guiding the men on the park to stride forward in the quest for an Ulster title.
Speaking at the official press night in advance of the game, he said that he was well pleased with the way preparations have been going.
And while he was quick to play down any suggestions that Donegal are hot-favourites he acknowledged the importance of having home advantage.
Donegal had a poor league campaign, eventually being relegated. But that will quickly become a distant memory.
There is only one immediate target now – overcoming Antrim and hoping to go all the way for an Ulster title success.
