Harps in real bother

Finn Harps are facing a major cash-flow crisis – as well as struggling on the field of play.
Their last home game was on April 11th, and their next home league clash, against Monaghan, is not untll May 16th.
And that means that the club will have gone five weeks without any money coming through the turnstiles while during this period they will also have played five away games.
And the Donegal club is also in real danger of finishing in its worst ever league position.
The club has won only once in its opening eight games and is unlikely to climb out of the bottom half of the table.
After the debacle on Friday night – when the game against Shelbourne was postponed after the referee ruled that sand spread on the pitch contained particles that could have been dangerous – Harps are away this Friday to Limerick.
Three times in the club’s history, Harps have finished sixth in the First Division.
But their only victory this season was against Longford Town, the side immediately below them.
Harps are now tenth in the 12 team First Division. Bottom club Kildare County have only one point to date – and that was against Harps.
Manager Paul Hegarty is getting increasing stick from some fans, but with a tiny budget there is little that he can do in terms of bringing in new faces, and many of his young players are battling hard, but finding that life in the First Division is tough.
Meanwhile, Harps crashed out of the EA Sports Cup on Monday night when they lost 4-1 to Sligo Rovers at the Showgrounds.
