Tragic death of performer

The woman who was killed in a tragic accident in Lurgybrack, Letterkenny, on Wednesday has been named as Emma Insley of Clarence Place, London.
The 30-year-old woman was rehearsing for an aerial display that involved a large metal globe being suspended from a crane. The woman was crushed when part of the display became detached from the crane. It is understood that she fell approximately 10 metres and that the metal globe fell on top of her.
The accident happened at approximately three o’clock in a field in Lurgybrack and the victim was removed from the scene by ambulance. The woman was pronounced dead at Letterkenny General Hospital shortly after arriving.
Gardai and the Health and Safety Authority are investigating the death but Gardai have confirmed that they aren’t treating the death as suspicious.
It is believed that the crane that was used in the incident may have been rented.
The company were scheduled to take part in the upcoming Bluestacks festival in Ballyshannon and it is believed that they were practicing for the event when the incident happened.
The woman belonged to the British touring group, the Fidget Feet performance Company, which had been storing its equipment in Lurgybrack National School and was rehearsing in the area.
The company specialised in aerial displays and its spectacular shows involve items being suspended from cranes, trees, buildings and boats. The shows combines elements of contemporary circus with aerial skills. The group have a history of performing stunning shows and are well-known in the industry for their professional and safety-conscious approach.
