(Donegal win 5-3 on Penalties)
Congratulations to Donegal Schoolboys under 14 team who captured the all Ireland trophy winning on penalties last weekend. Having disposed of their semi-final opponents with a remarkable four goals to one away to County Wexford in the semis, the team produced a terrific performance to overcome Waterford and lift the cup in the North Dublin venue.
The players, manager and coaches deserve much credit and we now wish them all the best as they begin their preparation for the upcoming Milk Cup and the Galway Cup. Meanwhile, much credit must also go to the players, management and coaches of the under 15 team who made it even a more remarkable day out for Donegal Schoolboys in Dublin, when they also qualified for the final. However, two early goals were to prove decisive and Donegal could not make the breakthrough against a strong Waterford team.
Donegal Underage Soccer is very much in the up at the moment for all the right reasons, with seven Donegal lads playing for the Irish Schoolboy International Teams in the last few months, the commencement of the new Donegal Champions League Competitions and two teams reaching the National Finals in Dublin.
There will be no let up in the summer as Willie Mackey takes his 1994 squad to participate in the Kennedy cup in Limerick and the Foyle Cup in Derry and the 1993’s will take in one of the biggest youth tournaments in Europe the when they compete in the prestigious Northern Ireland Milk Cup. First time back in this competition for nineteen years, they also will go to the Milk Cup where they have been invited into the elite group section. The 1992’s will also take part in the Foyle Cup, Derry and the Umbro Cup in Dublin.
