Letterkenny could be skating its way to Christmas this year if a suggestion put before the council this week goes ahead.
Correspondence to the Town Council from a local PR company, Storm PM has asked the council about bringing an ice-rink to the town in November time, which would not only be a first for Letterkenny, but for Donegal also.
Owned by Tricia Gallagher, Storm PM is the same company responsible for bringing the phenomenal Riverdance show to Letterkenny later this month.
The site will encompass a 600m2 ice rink, Santa’s polar palace and a corporate entertainment area. Having experience on a number of events nationwide including 7Up Christmas on Ice at the RDS Tricia says that there is a lot of work involved in bringing such a big event to the town.
“It will bring a magical atmosphere to young and old alike in the run up to Christmas,” the Storm PM proprietor stated.
“We will offer kids birthday party packages, corporate entertainment packages and some skate activities such as skate camp, and decks on ice. It’s something new for the county and it’s amazing how many enquiries we’ve received already!
“The event is of huge commercial value to the town as many parents will drop their kids off and go shopping or to have lunch. Thousands of people from the North West have gone to the rinks in Dublin over recent years so we can expect huge demand when it’s on our doorstep here in Letterkenny,” she concluded.
Meanwhile, councillors at the Town Council meeting were in favour of opening up discussion over the proposed rink and Town Clerk Paddy Doherty told that chamber that there would be €5000 available to facilitate it.
