Letterkenny will be the scene of a world title fight when Daniel “The Hurricane” Quigley of PT’s Gym in Carrigans challenges Wayne Turner in the Clanree Hotel, Letterkenny, on Saturday, May 17.
It promises to bring mass attention to the town and looks certain to draw a large number of fight fans from near and far. Quigley will fight Turner (a former K1 fighter) for the ISKA World Cruiserweight Full Contact Kickboxing Title. He got his shot at the title following his shock result against Paul Hill in Bristol back in March.
The PT’s Gym fighter had been drafted in at the last minute to fight Hill, who was the world title contender at the time. He shocked the kickboxing world by taking Hill out in the first round to win the European ISKA Cruiserweight title. His result in the televised bout was enough to secure him a shot at the World Title.
Paddy Toland, of PT’s Gym and a three times world kickboxing champion in his own right, was subsequently contacted by the President of the World ISKA Association who offered him a opportunity to hold the fight in Letterkenny.
Also on the undercard for the fight is Letterkenny’s own European and Commonwealth Champion, Tommy McCafferty. He will be returning to the action in the Clanree in preparation for his own World Title fight at the end of the year.
Both McCafferty and Quigley are set to be the subject of a documentary, which will follow the pair’s impressive progress to date.
It will be the first time that such a world title fight has been held in the North West and it is sure to bring plenty of media attention to the town.
