Dunfanaghy win qualifier by ten shots

May 9th, 2008

Tan Kacperski’s Jimmy Bruen team effectively used their home advantage to head the field by a staggering 10 shots on Sunday.
14 Clubs from Donegal were in action and conditions were perfect for links golf. Tan decided to pick a team of form players and it proved inspirational with Cathal McMonagle, Neil McGinley, Roger Green and Daniel McColgan all playing really well.
The rest of the team were also in good form, with only five shots between the best and the worst score. Two of the pairings dropped eight shots over the last three holes but, as the other teams came in, the score proved to be emphatic. Qualification was the main objective and Dunfanaghy will now play against Ballyliffen while Donegal GC play Cruit Island. We wish Tan and his team the very best as this competition enters the knockout stage.
The Ladies played for the John Roarty Shield and the winner of the shield was Delma Irvine (26) 73 nett. In second place Barbara Eakin (14) 74 nett. BOT. The winners of the scramble on Tuesday, May 19, were Mary Lafferty, Una Diver and Cathleen Boyle with a score of 62 nett.
The Fred Daly Team were beaten 4-3 by Rockmount Golf Club. They gave the home team a scare but eventually Rockmount prevailed.
Good luck to Neil McGinley’s team go to the Northwest Golf Club for the Pierce Purcell on Sunday, May 11.
