Abandoned

Former workers at Termon Upholstery have lambasted local TD’s claiming their pleas for help fell on deaf ears.
A spokeswoman for the factory which shut down two months ago said it appeared that jobs in Letterkenny were more important than those outside the town.
The woman told the Letterkenny Post: “The back biting that went on between Joe McHugh and Niall Blaney over the job losses at Oatfield was laughable if it wasn’t so serious.
“We found ourselves in the same position as the workers in Oatfield and wrote to every single TD but not one of them cared enough about us to respond in any way.
“The owner of Termon Upholstery fell ill and as a result our future wasn’t secure so we wrote to all the TD’s asking for advice and help about the possibility of us taking over the factory ourselves but the silence from them was deafening.
“This was a well established factory and the first all leather manufacturing company in Ireland and the only one as far as I know in Donegal but that didn’t matter to the TD’s.
“We eventually found ourselves out of jobs the factory closed even though there was work there for us and are now left wondering had we been based in Letterkenny would the TD’s have raised the same stink for us as the y did for the workers in Oatfield.”
