A house in a million

House hunting can be a tiresome business but for those who have a cool million or two Euro in their back pocket, taking a trip out the Ramelton Road could be the answer to their dreams.
For a mere E2.2 million this house is definitely one of the most prestigious homes to hit the Donegal property market in recent times.
However, the most amazing thing about the house is that it is just two years old – but from either the inside or outside there is no indication that this is a new build.
Set in eight tranquil acres where the only sounds are rooks and running water, complete with shore front, man-made lake and mature gardens you almost expect to see Mr Darcy coming striding along in his britches.
This Victorian ambience is carried on into the house itself where the attention to detail leaves you speechless.
This is a house that was built with meticulous care which is evident from the second you cross the threshold.
A wide hallway leads into reception rooms, kitchen and two conservatories on the ground floor, all of which have the mandatory sash windows, high ceilings with coving and 12 inch skirtings of any Victorian house of yesteryear.
Dominating the hallway is a magnificent stairway that almost demands to be the showcase for ladies dressed for a ball. Scarlet O’Hara would be very happy shasaying down these stairs.
The house has six bedrooms in total spread over two floors and once again are in perfect keeping with the Victorian period prevalent.
This is especially true of the bedrooms located on the top floor, which although they are attic rooms, still have height and space.
You can see how easy it would be to forget the worries of the world or even to forget you are even in the 21st century as you gaze out any window of this house but particularly from the top floor.
Despite the price tag, the selling agent of this house, Boyd Robinson says there is a demand for houses like this in Donegal that offer something different and he doesn’t expect this one to be on the market for long.
