O’Donnell Park is likely to get official approval to stage the National Football League Division 1A clash between Donegal and All-Ireland champions Kerry on Sunday, March 25th.
Club officials are working flat out to ensure that the ground meets the necessary health and safety requirements – and are optimistic that they will be given the green light.
In January, a high-ranking official from GAA headquarters in Croke Park visited the ground and approved a capacity of just 3,800.
But the club is hoping that works being carried out will increase the capacity to 7,000.
“We would hope that the works will be finished be the end first week of March,” commented club secretary, Paddy Mullan.
All the indications are that the game will be all-ticket. The return of inter-county football to O’Donnell Park will be a huge boost to the game in the north of the county.
And O’Donnell Park is set to become the number two ground in the county after MacCumhaill Park in Ballybofey.
